Veterinarian
Dr. Ryan McCann, DVM
Dr. Ryan McCann is a 1996 graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Dr. McCann spent four years in a mixed animal practice in Hannibal, MO, where he quickly developed a deep appreciation for below-freezing calf pulls, middle-of-the-night C-sections, and the unique character-building experience of rural veterinary medicine.
In 2000, he moved on to build his first small animal practice in Troy, MO—trading my barn boots for clinic shoes. In 2021, that veterinary legacy got a new twist when his daughter graduated from veterinary school and joined forces with him to open Hawk Ridge Animal Hospital (located in Lake Saint Louis), later expanding to Prairie Ridge Animal Hospital.
Dr. McCann enjoys all aspects of soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, with a particular interest in fracture plating and TPLO procedures—essentially anything involving precision, hardware, and a good challenge.
He lives in Wildwood, MO with his wife Jill and a rotating cast of furry household staff who are convinced the entire home exists for their comfort.
Veterinarian
Dr. Hunter McCan, DVM
Dr. Hunter McCann earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 2021, but her veterinary career unofficially began years earlier while growing up in her father’s animal hospital. As a kid, she spent her time helping care for sick pets, assisting with surgeries, and probably asking far too many medical questions for her age. It quickly became obvious that veterinary medicine was less of a career choice and more of a lifelong personality trait.
Dr. McCann loves building relationships with clients, solving challenging medical cases, and helping pets live their happiest and healthiest lives. She has a special interest in advanced surgery and is known for tackling complicated cases with equal parts skill, determination, and caffeine.
When she’s not at the hospital, Dr. McCann enjoys traveling with her husband and spending time with her two golden retrievers, Quill and Gravy, who firmly believe they are both employees of the month.
Veterinarian
Dr. Kaitlin Bishop, DVM
Dr. Bishop earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 2020 and has been working in the animal care field since she was 15 years old, which means she’s spent most of her life covered in fur, slobber, or both.
She loves building lifelong relationships with pets and their families and especially enjoys watching her patients grow through every stage of life, from chaotic puppy visits to distinguished senior years (with plenty of treats in between). Dr. Bishop is known for her warm personality, compassionate care, and impressive ability to talk sweetly to nervous pets while simultaneously convincing them to stop trying to eat the thermometer.
At home, life is just as busy thanks to her five pets: Morgan, her sweet senior cat; Wilbur, her energetic Australian Shepherd; Bob, her oversized Bernese Mountain Dog; Barney, her goofy Labrador Retriever; and Booger, her orange cat, who collectively ensure there is never a quiet moment in the house. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Bishop enjoys reading, attending concerts, and spending time with her husband and daughter.
Hospital Administrator
Jill McCann
Jill McCann, BSN, brings more than 30 years of surgical nursing and leadership experience to her role as Administrator at Prairie Ridge Animal Hospital. She is dedicated to strengthening connections within the Dardenne Prairie community and supporting families through compassionate, high‑quality animal care. Jill and her husband, Dr. Ryan McCann, DVM, share their home with a lively crew of pets — Carrot, Mowgli, Simba, Eland, and Flea — and enjoy staying connected with their grown children, Aaron, Hunter, and Kellen. Her life is rooted in service, family, and the belief that caring for animals is a way of caring for the people who love them.
Clinical Manager
Megan Henke
Megan began working in veterinary medicine with Dr. McCann while in high school in Troy, MO. Her passion for animal science started many years before, being involved in 4-H, FFA, and showing animals in the county fairs. Later, she graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science.
Megan has grown her experience and love for the veterinary field as a veterinary technician at Hawk Ridge Animal Hospital, and now serves as the clinical manager for Prairie Ridge Animal Hospital. Megan enjoys creating a welcoming environment for both clients and their pets while supporting our veterinary team each day.
Outside of the clinic, Megan loves spending time with her husband and family, reading, and enjoying the outdoors. She is also a proud pet parent to four furry companions: Mavis the Labrador, Murray the Terrier, Henry the Exotic Shorthair, and Hercules the British Longhair.
